“Ah, if only you knew how splendid it is up there in the North.“
Roald Amundson

If you’ve found yourself here, you’re likely feverishly enthusiastic about everything northern. You may also have experience of folk being unable to fathom your enthusiasm.
Feeling isolated in my enthusiasm is one of the main reasons I created this blog, so I could have a space to unashamedly revel in my northern fever. It also serves as a platform for documenting my journey of settling permanently in Scandinavia.
My name is Katie, and I’m an author, blogger, poet and photographer from the north of England. I’m neurodivergent and the mother of a half-Swedish daughter named Saga, who has the hair of Princess Tuvstarr and all the sass of Pippi Longstocking.
From the beginning, I endeavoured to publish absorbing, illuminating content, sharing both lived and learned experiences. My attachment to and preoccupation with the far north is rooted in my identity and shaped by heritage and experience.
After a tumultuous 2025, I’m easing myself back into creating for Northern Fever and it feels like a homecoming. There’s so much to share, and I’d be delighted to have you along for the journey.
I’m elated to share that A Northern Fever recently featured in Mslexia: The Magazine for Women Who Write. The piece features an excerpt from my blog post Holavallagarður – Reykjavik’s Forested Garden of The Departed.
Author and blogger Sarah Elizabeth interviewed me some years ago on Unquiet Things and wrote some glowing things about my blog. While most of what she mentions is what the void swallowed, it’s still a beautiful insight into the origins of this blog and a recommended read.
